Short answer: a MetaTrader VPS is a Windows server that keeps MT4 or MT5 and your Expert Advisors running while your own computer is off. On Rdp.Vision you rent one with an email or Telegram and pay with crypto, no ID. The Windows plan with 2 vCPU, 6 GB RAM and 40 GB NVMe for $13 a month runs a few terminals with EAs; it's online about 10–20 minutes after the payment confirms.
An Expert Advisor only trades while its terminal is open and connected. A laptop that sleeps, a home connection that drops or a Windows update at 3 a.m. all stop it. A VPS in a data centre runs day and night, with a stable connection to your broker.
01Which Size You Need
MetaQuotes doesn't publish a RAM figure per terminal, and real use depends on the number of charts, the EAs and how much history they load. As a starting point:
| Setup | Plan | Price |
|---|---|---|
| 1–3 terminals, a few EAs on normal timeframes | 2 vCPU, 6 GB RAM, 40 GB NVMe | $13/month |
| 4–8 terminals, or tick-heavy EAs | 4 vCPU, 8 GB RAM, 60 GB NVMe | $26/month |
| Many terminals, or backtests on the server | 8 vCPU, 12 GB RAM, 80 GB NVMe | $45.50/month |
Watch Task Manager for a day after you set everything up. If memory stays above about 80%, move up a size; if it sits at 30%, you have room for more terminals.

02Which Location
What matters for an EA is the round trip to your broker's trade server, not to you. Brokers mostly run their servers in London, New York, Amsterdam or Frankfurt; your broker's support or its server name often says which.
- New York for brokers in the US data centres
- Amsterdam or Frankfurt for brokers in London and continental Europe
- Hong Kong for brokers serving Asia
MetaTrader shows the ping to the trade server in the bottom-right corner of the terminal. Compare it after you log in; a few milliseconds more or less rarely matters for an EA on H1 candles, more for scalping.
03Setting It Up
- 1Connect with Remote Desktop. The address, username and password are on your server page. How to connect has the steps for Windows, Mac and phone.
- 2Download MetaTrader from your broker. The broker's own installer comes with its server list. Install one copy per account if you run several.
- 3Log in to your trading account and check the connection and ping in the bottom-right corner.
- 4Copy your EAs and indicators into
File > Open Data Folder > MQL5\Experts(orMQL4\Experts), then refresh the Navigator. - 5Attach the EA to its chart and turn on Algo Trading (MT5) or AutoTrading (MT4) in the toolbar.
- 6Disconnect, don't sign out. Close the Remote Desktop window. MetaTrader keeps running; "Sign out" would close it.
04Make It Survive a Restart
Windows restarts now and then, for updates or after maintenance. Two settings bring MetaTrader back on its own:
- Autostart the terminal. Press
Win + R, typeshell:startupand put a shortcut toterminal64.exe(MT5) orterminal.exe(MT4) in that folder. - Sign in automatically. Programs in the Startup folder only start once a user is signed in. Use Sysinternals Autologon to sign the administrator in at boot.
- Save the chart setup. MetaTrader reopens the last profile with its EAs attached, as long as Algo Trading was on when it closed.
- Set active hours in Windows Update so restarts happen outside the trading session you care about.
05Keep It Safe
- Allow RDP only from your IP. The firewall on your server page has a template for it; it stops the password guessing every public Windows server gets. More in How to Secure a Windows RDP Server.
- Use the investor password for monitoring tools and anything you share; it can see trades but not place them.
- Keep a copy of your EAs and settings off the server. A reinstall starts from a clean Windows.
06Paying for It
Pay with USDT, USDC, Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, Solana, BNB or Monero. Longer terms cost less: 5% off for 3 months, 10% for 6 and 15% for 12. A Python or Node bot that talks to a crypto exchange doesn't need Windows; for that, a Linux VPS from $3.90 is enough, see Best VPS for Crypto Trading Bots.
Yes. Install them into separate folders. Each terminal needs its own memory, so count them all when you pick the size.
